| ![]() Natural Isn't A Trend, It's A Lifestyle® Words from Nana This Month: Vitamins & Hairgrowth The root is where the problem starts! Hair grows up from the root then out of the opening. Your hair is mostly protein and needs heavy amino acids, nourishment and vitamins to grow. Vitamins provide sustenance and are so important for longer, stronger, faster growing hair! Food For Thought Hair is made up of 88% protein. These proteins are chains of amino acids that need nourishment for optimum health. A common amino acid found in hair is cystine. Almost all hair problems are a result of the lack of nutrition. Stress is an elemental factor of hair problems. It keeps the cells from reproducing and as a result sebum, bacteria and dirt can wrap a hair's root and not allow it not to breathe which can result in thinning and even hair loss. For those of African descent the way we treat our hair with relaxers, perms, heat and color not to mention braids and extensions promote the vicious cycle of short, damaged, thin hair! Hair is nothing more than a non-living tissue which is made up of fibrous protein called keratin. Much like the health of your nails, hair requires a nutritiously rich supply of blood. Problems such as hair loss, dandruff, brittle hair and graying can be signs that hair follicles are not getting much needed nutrition. Although other factors such as aging, medications, hormonal changes, genetics, environmental circumstances, thyroid problems, immune disorders, smoking and the use of harsh chemicals contribute to hair loss, a balanced diet supplemented with proper vitamins, minerals and fatty acids can lead to a healthier head of hair. With the correct vitamins for hair growth, many conditions that contribute to broken and fragile hair caused by age, stress, chemical treatments, wind and sun can all, including hair loss, be improved. The following vitamins are what I recommend: MSM Evening primose Oil Lastly but not least, don't forget the protein! Contributed by Nana Osei, founder of Konaa®Return to home Enjoy! |
