This Month: Vitamins & Hairgrowth

The root is where the problem starts!
Hair grows up from the root then out of the opening. Your hair is mostly protein and needs heavy amino acids, nourishment and vitamins to grow. Vitamins provide sustenance and are so important for longer, stronger, faster growing hair!

Food For Thought
Hair is made up of 88% protein. These proteins are chains of amino acids that need nourishment for optimum health. A common amino acid found in hair is cystine. Almost all hair problems are a result of the lack of nutrition. Stress is an elemental factor of hair problems. It keeps the cells from reproducing and as a result sebum, bacteria and dirt can wrap a hair's root and not allow it not to breathe which can result in thinning and even hair loss. For those of African descent the way we treat our hair with relaxers, perms, heat and color not to mention braids and extensions promote the vicious cycle of short, damaged, thin hair!

Hair is nothing more than a non-living tissue which is made up of fibrous protein called keratin. Much like the health of your nails, hair requires a nutritiously rich supply of blood. Problems such as hair loss, dandruff, brittle hair and graying can be signs that hair follicles are not getting much needed nutrition. Although other factors such as aging, medications, hormonal changes, genetics, environmental circumstances, thyroid problems, immune disorders, smoking and the use of harsh chemicals contribute to hair loss, a balanced diet supplemented with proper vitamins, minerals and fatty acids can lead to a healthier head of hair.

With the correct vitamins for hair growth, many conditions that contribute to broken and fragile hair caused by age, stress, chemical treatments, wind and sun can all, including hair loss, be improved.

The following vitamins are what I recommend:

Multivitamin
a vitamin that contains at least 100% of the most of the recommended daily nutrients is a must. You do not have to pay a lot of money to get good quality. CVS or even Walmart carry really good and inexpensive brands.

MSM
This vitamin is very important for healthy hair, muscles, and joints. It helps to decrease hair fall out. It does this by assisting in making the growth stage of the hair longer. The longer you are able to retain the root, the longer you hair will grow check out "http://www.ferlowbrothers.com/whatis.htm" for more information on the benefits of MSM.

Biotin
Skin, nails, and hair rely on biotin to grow. So, if we feed our bodies more biotin, then our skin will look better, and our nails will be stronger, and our hair will grow faster and stronger. Biotin aids in the utilization of protein, folic acid, Pantothenic acid, and Vitamin B-12, in addition to promoting healthy hair.

Evening primose Oil
A botanical source of the essential fatty acid gamma linolenic acid, evening primrose oil is helpful for hormonal balancing, PMS, weight control and beautiful skin. It also minimizes fine wrinkles, reduces cholesterol, helps with your metabolism, and cures hair and nail problems. It helps nourish straw-like hair. Check out "http://www.canited.com/EPOhistory.htm" for more information.

Lastly but not least, don't forget the protein!
